Fruit on Blue considers the aesthetics of pleasure. This body of work centers on fruit and color in a discourse on beauty and visual pleasure through the medium of oil painting, connecting traditional still life and monochrome to the multiple meanings within fruit as a symbol. The expanse of ultramarine blue mixed by the artist for this series accentuates the ability of color to provoke subjective emotion, and association, and prompts the question of who can own a color. The fruits cast shadows, implying a surface that is not there. They contain flesh tones, textures, and shapes that reflect those of the human body.(more)
